A new Professional Captains Association and Virtual Captain’s Courses give Captain’s the hand they need

[NEWPORT, RI, August 2020] Confident Captain, a well-known training facility that offers courses and certifications for aspiring captains, announced earlier this summer the launch of their Professional Captains Association, an innovative trade organization and support network, and now is pleased to report the expansion of their captain’s courses both physically and virtually.

Built from the ground up and launched in May, the Association offers opportunities for professional development, support, and advocacy for captains nationwide. The Association’s unified community allows captains to focus on driving the boat, knowing they are supported every step of the way.

“The boats we run might be small, but the job we do is big,” says Capt. Kent Dresser, who sits at the helm of Confident Captain as its founder. “ Together we can all improve the level of professional development, safety, career success, and pride in our nation’s Captains.”

Supplied with a wealth of resources such as online courses and certificates, legal and financial advice, mentorship, and a job board, members have the opportunity to utilize the supplied resources for career advancement, and become the best captain they can be.

Moreover, membership comes with free online captain’s courses with the option for supplemental group or private tutoring. Every student will be assigned a local captain instructor who is available for additional help through video conferencing and eventually will be the moderator for their in-person exam.

“Our trade group is leveraging the maritime experience of captains from Florida to Maine,” Capt. Dresser says of the partnerships he is fostering with captains on the eastern seaboard. Dresser has secured both staff and facilities to proctor Captain’s exams (meet our new captains here!) but also offer professional development opportunities for licensed captains to continue learning.

“From stability lessons to small business bookkeeping, we want to be a resource to help everyone succeed,” concluded Dresser.

Membership tiers offer a range of benefits and members can select from a variety of options: Associate, Full, Pro, and Business Partnerships. All ensure access to Confident Captain’s professional support network of peers.
